Education is a cornerstone of MBCN’s mission. In 2017, we want to try new ways to help inform our community about clinical trials, a source of treatment of for many patients, and the vehicle by which new treatments become standard treatments for all patients.
Unfortunately only 5% of metastatic breast cancer patients participate in trials. This low rate of participation is, in part, the result of patients not being made aware of trial opportunities by their healthcare providers. To help overcome this lack of awareness, MBCN participated in the development of Metastatic Trial Search, a simple online search engine that can be accessed by patients on our website. Please take a look and see what trials are available to you.
On April 21, 2017, MBCN will offer another way for our patient community to receive information about trials. Partnering with the RESEARCH ADVOCACY NETWORK, we will offer a one-hour audio webinar of three trials, currently open to patients and sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, an agency funded by tax dollars. Government trials often do not receive the publicity that industry sponsored trials receive.
We invite you to learn more about different trials. You’ll hear how investigators trying to determine if there are better ways to treat hormone positive metastatic breast cancer, and triple negative metastatic breast cancer as well as patients who have a limited number of mets. After each presentation, listeners can ask the presenters questions.
